The Friends of Alton AbbeyTHE FRIENDS OF ALTON ABBEY

Registered Charity No. 284876

Patron: His Grace The Duke of Rutland

Vice Patron: Her Grace the Duchess of Rutland

The "Friends of Alton Abbey" (FOAA) was established in 1980 as a registered charity to raise funds to support the charitable work of the Abbey and, in particular, to contribute to the costs of projects that the Community is unable to finance but which are essential to their life of witness and service.

While much has been achieved by the Friends, there is always an ever increasing demand for help; there is a continual need for renovation of the buildings and for the maintenance of the facilities both for the monks and their many visitors at a cost that is often beyond the limited resources of the Community.

The Friends raise money for the Community by arranging a number of events through the year, to which all Friends are invitied to help run, contribute to or attend.  We are constantly looking forways to make the work of the Abbey better known and stimulate ever-widening interest among those who would like to be associated with an Anglican, Benedictine Community.  One of the highlights of the year is the "Annual Alton Lecture" which usually takes place in the autumn.

All Friends are invited by the Abbot and the Community to attend the Conventual Mass on St Benedict's Day (July 11th) and a celebratory lunch that follows it.  Of course it is hoped that Friends will be able to join the Community's worship at other times as well.

By becoming a Friend of Alton Abbey you can help support the ministry of this precious, monastic community.

The minimum subscriptions for annual and life membership are shown on the FOAA Membership Application Form.  If you are a tax payer, please complete the Gift Aid Declaration on the Application Form. It costs you nothing but enables the friends to reclaim tax, thus increasing the value of your subscription. Filling in the Bankers Order will reduce the workload of the Honorary Treasurer even further. Please make cheques payable to "Friends of Alton Abbey".

Since real signatures are required, you will need to print-off the forms, complete and post them to:

A Prayer for the Friends of Alton Abbey

Father, your Son, Jesus Christ, called us to give up all to follow him.
We ask your blessing on the Community of Our Lady and St John at Alton.
May we, as Friends of Alton Abbey,
assist and further the worship and work of the Lord's service in that place.
We make our prayer through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
